    Olympus 8x25 WP II?

Thanks for that. "nice to use" is exactly what I'm looking for! I have to say that every vendor says that the "WP" literally stands for waterproof! From a review: ...field of view of 108m at 1000m, an actual field of view of 6.2 degrees, and an apparent field of view of 49.5 degrees My...

    Olympus 8x25 WP II?

I am currently in the "market" for a pair of general travel binoculars - my need has arisen because I dropped the pair of Nikon Sportstar II 8x20 I've used for the last 20 years.:( Typical targets are identifying buildings on the horizon, cathedral ceiling features, boats out at sea, and...

    Tripods/Heads/Telescopes - generalities?

I have some old tripods and heads (Manfrotto 144/with 166 head, Benbo model 1, Gitzo Reporter with offset ball head, Manfrotto 79 monopod) These have served me well for photographic use. But none of these seem a very good match with my Mirador 22-47 x 75mm telescope. The Manfrotto 144 is just...

Adapter type sought - CANNOT fit to eye piece?

There may be hope - my smartphone (Motorola G7) gets a good view. Handholding it in place is V difficult though. This is just a shot out of my kitchen window of a (old, tatty) ornamental flowering cherry. Wide angle for context, view through scope, 100% crop of scope shot. This looks...

Adapter type sought - CANNOT fit to eye piece?

OK; turns out the adapter doesn't really matter. Messing around handheld, I found that none of my "good" cameras can get close enough in (is this "eye relief"?) to actually get a full screen image. The only one that will is a Nikon Coolpix 2200 I bought for £1 "just because" at a car boot sale...

Adapter type sought - CANNOT fit to eye piece?

A long time ago, I bought a digiscope adapter, of this style: Last week, I bought this Mirador spotting scope; https://www.birdforum.net/threads/mirador-22-47-x-75mm-spotting-scope-balance.407341/ Sadly, my digiscope adapter is designed to clamp onto a large eyepiece, either with a separate...

    Mirador 22-47 x 75mm spotting scope, balance?

I thought I'd need that, but since the wooden platform under the screw is actually a shade too low (by about 1.5mm), there's a slight leverage from the rear of the platform providing very definite downforce at the felt end. A convenient error that I didn't design in :) BugBear

    Measuring FOV?

OK, out into the garden, zoom to minimum (stated as 22x) Turns out 2 canes weren't needed - the FOV at the end of my garden is still only a few feet, so I just looked at the marks and numbers on an old measuring stick held by my assistant. My surveyor's tape is metric; so my FOV is 3'2" @...

    Measuring FOV?

Since my new-to-me Mirador scope isn't marked with this, I'd like to measure the FOV. https://www.birdforum.net/threads/mirador-22-47-x-75mm-spotting-scope-balance.407341/ Is this as simple as getting a helper to place a garden cane into the the ground at the left/right extremes of the field...

And ... it balances (on a small length of stick!!) BugBear

    Mirador 22-47 x 75mm spotting scope, balance?

Shed productions inc presents... That's some scraps of mahogany, 74mm radius cut in the "fat end" support, lined with felt. The entire device was assembled and fixed to the telescope via a 1/4" bolt through the hole in the left; a chopstick was used as a pivot to locate the balance point, and...

    Mirador 22-47 x 75mm spotting scope, balance?

I have "shed grade" workshop abilities - I can certainly fashion a spacer (AKA square of aluminium with a 1/4" hole it) Thank you for your post - most helpful. BugBear

    Mirador 22-47 x 75mm spotting scope, balance?

I just bought a cheap, old-ish cope from eBay, per thread title. (Slightly discoloured rubber sleeve at the objective end) Mounting on my heaviest photographic tripod (Manfrotto #144, #168 ballhead), the views into my garden are bright and sharp - I am well pleased. However, the tripod mount...

    What gender is this sparrowhawk?

My garden groundfeeder had a visitor, which won't please my songbirds much. My bird book allowed me to ID a sparrowhawk, but I'm unsure as to gender. I've retro-spectively measure the bird feeder at 42 cm, and pixel counting allowed me to size this red rectangle at 20 cm high. So - male or...
