Did the US Navy Use Japanese Binoculars Prior to WWII?

I can't remember for sure, since I was too busy being upset about seeing Japan, but I think you are right.

Did the US Navy Use Japanese Binoculars Prior to WWII?

Thanks for the reply. I thought it was BS but wanted to make sure before I started on a rant. :) I agree that they dropped the ball on the binoculars, especially since it was being seen on big screens and Japan was probably in letters a foot high when being shown in a theater.

Did the US Navy Use Japanese Binoculars Prior to WWII?

I was watching Patton and noticed his 7x50 binoculars said Japan on the lower hinge cover. Looking on IMDB someone said that the US used Japanese binoculars prior to the bombing Pearl Harbor. Is this true? As a camera buff I know that companies like Nikon and Canon became known for their...

    Need Eyepiece for 804 Audubon

Yes, it does need collimation. Whenever I see Audubons, and to a certain extent, Swifts, I have to buy them. this makes the 3rd pair of Audubons I own. I'll probably never really use them so I'm not in too much of a rush to get them fixed but I'd like to get them in working condition sometime.

    Need Eyepiece for 804 Audubon

Looking at photos of other Audubons online I guess the eyepiece that came with the binoculars is the correct one. I put it back on and tightened the screws but it still could probably stand to be seen by a professional. I could use new eyecups as well.

    Need Eyepiece for 804 Audubon

I picked up a Swift Audubon Mark II Model 804 with Fully Coated Optics. It's in great shape except for they right, adjustable eyepiece, which is missing. Where can I send it to get a replacement eyepiece installed? Or is it an easy fix if I can find an eyepiece on my own?

    Pelican case for scope

Before I went to Namibia I first went to a thrift store and bought a cheap suitcase that was slightly larger than my Pelican case. Nobody bothered my gear because it was in a dirty torn suitcase. Chad

    Who is OCK?

I picked up a pair of Bushnell Featherlight 8X30 binoculars made in Occupied Japan and above the 8x30 it says ock in a dome. I have never heard of OCK, have they made binoculars I should have heard of? The binoculars are in great shape, luckily it seems they spent most of their life in the...

    Field guides for Namibia

We just got back from a trip to Namibia and found this field guide to be fairly helpful. It didn't have all the birds, insects or reptiles we saw but was a good basic guide. http://www.amazon.com/The-Wildlife-Southern-Africa-Edition/dp/1770077049 Chad

    Interesting Price on Zephyrs

I've found lots of great binoculars at pawn shops for not much money. Like Optic_Nut said, lots of crap, but sometimes something nice gets in. I found a pair of Zephyrs for $20. Chad

    New Swaro Pockets

In the few minutes I looked at the 8x25s at the Tucson Bird Festival I had problems with the floppy hinge. I picked the glasses up with my right hand, my left was filled with catalogs and such, the left ocular slumped down and I was unable to see through both lenses. I had to set my stuff down...
