    worry about this site - 2 years ago I found 1 plant amid a lot of cow activity - last year on this forum people could not find any - hope I am wrong they are not easy to spot but did spend quite a bit of searching the area- I believe there are Yorkshire sites still so good luck.

    Dark Reds Cumbria / Lancs Hi DRs flowering well at Lady Slipper site Had no luck with finding any late flowering CRs at Barrow but loads of northern, early marsh common spotted and hybrids - plus the odd bee - however did not see any signs of Dunes coming along. Philip

    many thanks - my understanding is that LTs tend to hang on to their flowers for a few weeks - so hope I will be OK in 2 weeks - may just need to spot them this year and come back and photograph next - road side bee orchids doing well in Northants and pyramidal are just starting to open up

    Green Winged Hi Oxfordshire green winged all seem a bit small this year and not so abundant - probably due to the dry autumn / winter ? Re colour variation - snapped this one a couple of years ago in Oxon - similar to Simonm001's

    Must be about the right time for the Dune Helleborines at Sandscale Haws - also occasional green helleborine - haven't been this year though - or try the creeping ladies tresses at Cliburn Moss- but make sure you have plenty of insect repellent

    Many thanks - re - best European orchid book - not sure as I stick to UK - my favourite UK is Harraps' Orchids of Britain and Ireland - "Ophrys: The Bee Orchids of Europe (Kew Botanical Magazine Monograph)" is great but limited to one group

    2015 UK Orchids

    Bees and Frogs great year for bees south Northants - hundreds on the roadside but went to my favourite frog site near Otmoor and all had black bits on flowers - looked like local drought - common spotted also very weedy so spent the afternoon chasing damsels and dragons instead!
