That's an absolute disgrace. No consideration whatsoever for the environment.

Hope you had some luck today but they didn't seem to be around when I left for work at 0700hrs. There were some on Marlowe Road on 23rd April last year (the final birds in Cheshire & Wirral last winter).

Dawlish Road, off Marlowe Road. They were there up until at least 0900hrs but there were none there at 1700hrs. There were 6 on Marlowe Road yesterday afternoon.

I don't think you can complain that the wildlife 'was poor'. It's either there or it's not. The tannoyman did his best to keep people's interest on what was a very quiet day on the bird/mammal front & yes, we did see one of the Grey Seals.

Well done Richard for making the point in the way you did. Unfortunately the people who did this, & have no doubt been reading this thread, apparently don't care what others think or for the welfare of this bird...evidenced by the comments in Sid's post. I imagine these are all North West...

New Years Day Hawfinches in Wales

I've been to Llanbedr yn Cennin & Caer Hun churchyard (which is off the main road on the left just before you turn right to Llanbedr) on a number of occasions in recent years but have yet to see Hawfinch.......which remains my bogey bird after 40 years birding! However, I did see the Black...

    Tripod For Kowa Tsn-821

Thanks for all your observations (& offer!). I have taken the plunge, having read comments on this & other threads & have (co-incidentally) gone for exactly the same setup as mark22c, ie manfrotto 055xb with 128rc head. Although I received it a few days ago I haven't yet had chance to test it in...

Thanks for your suggestion Pinussen. I'll have a look around the on-line stores to see what I can find.

    Tripod For Kowa Tsn-821

Thanks for your advice AC/DC. I'd like to get the best I can afford so wouldn't want to set a particular budget limit. As you suggest, there may be bargains to be had on ex demo models etc. Any other birders out there who are particularly satisfied with their current tripod, please?
