I think pricing is getting out of hand here. I mean it would make more sense if there were an intent to make a boutique product eg. like those big Nikon bins etc, and destined to be used very carefully in controlled environments. But for something to be thrown in a backpack and taken to the...
My local FNAC Leica salesman confirmed they were hazy.
Leica Paris said "they weren't the latest model"
Leica Paris pretended to send them in.
( the employee had some "issues" and then they couldnt find the binoculars)
I am really unhappy with their behavior.
They provided an invoice which said...
My UV HD 7x42 new old stock were cheap and now that I've cleaned the oculars they're ok.
The resolution is not spectacular, but eye comfort and general usability are great.
In french terms, they're like a good local restaurant, no stars but very pleasant to go to.
I'm thinking of finding a...
I think the 7x35 Leica is now the best small bin. I think it beats the 7x42.
The Zeiss has unbeatable optics in its size range, but horrible to use for longer periods.
If you're gonna repeatedly pick up liquid cleaning product chemical residue from the oculars with your eyelashes, and drag it into close contact with your eyes, the stuff you use had better be friendly. That is one big difference between camera lenses and binocular oculars.

Interesting. Which would mean my advice was wrong too, but then I'm not an "expert".
Maybe we should ask the manufacturers for their opinion on this topic.
One -minor- issue is that what is good for lenses is not necessarily good for the human. I used an optician's spray to clean my glasses...
I found that it's easier to find a pharmacy mostly anywhere you go. This pharmacy will gladly sell you a small bottle of non-toxic (non altered) ethanol. I guess you can drink that without excessive harm, or use it as a desinfectant for cuts etc, but the same pharmacy will also sell you...
They still seem to be sitting there selling $14k cine zooms, although for all I know these might be rebranded chinese products :)

What I heard re their consumer zooms at the time was that a japanese third party lens brand needing a zoom product...
Gijs,
Could you pm me your email so I can send you a summary, and a phone number/whatsapp please, and I‘ll try and call you daytime?
I have a feeling we might get an interesting paper out of this discussion, and I have no problem being second author ;)
If what you want is transmission data...
With respect, Gijs, the transmission curves are factual data determined by a measurement method which, by my respect for you I assume reproducible; however interpretation of the curves would assume spectral assumptions about both illuminant and subject, as well as assumptions about the...
I own a bunch of spectrophotometers, and even designed a colorimeter once, so although I am not the sharpest knife in the box, I have some understanding, or rather familiarity, with color issues. My eyes are those one can expect from a color consultant.
The issues here seem are complicated...
When I say perfected I mean perfected.
They got yet another Oscar in 2009, again for some zooms which presumably were still then considered ok.

As we all know, the french historically were some of the first and...
I would expect to find Angénieux binos of any period, as bought for french government use, just as in Germany you would expect to find those from local manufacturers like Zeiss or Hensoldt.
You could ask Angénieux about their history of long range optics :)
