    Yup. I have seen this a few times. They usually seem to carry the prey in the bill rather than in the talons - perhaps as a precaution against being bitten!

    S.Cyprus IDs?

    Juvenile of one of the whip snakes, perhaps Large (Hierophis (Coluber) jugularis ) or Cyprus (H. cypriensis). They get darker as adults. Could also be Montpellier Snake (Malpolon monspessulanus), but the head looks too small and lacks the prominent supraorbital ridges.

    I think Marsh - sometimes a pale spot at the base of the upper mandible is visible - but they don't keep still for long enough to be sure. They do not seem to have the bull-headed jizz of Willow Tit. Occasional Middle Spotted Woodpeckers and Hawfinches are a real treat.

    I love cats and have always owned one or two. I am also a keen birder. My cats have an outdoor enclosed run which ensures they have access to exercise and fresh air, but not to garden birds.     Even more IDs from my trip to North Kent yesterday?

    Ravens are now recorded quite frequently in Kent , but I don't think this is one - the bill looks too small to me. Also the second bird might be a female Reed Bunting.

    I think the essential characteristic of birds of prey is that they kill their prey with their talons, rather than their bills. Thus accipiters, falcons and owls are birds of prey, while shrikes, skuas, gulls and corvids - all potent predators - are not.
