    Wheatear - Southern Spain

Thanks Ken Out of interest - what is the key ID point? I found females especially tricky.

    Wheatear - Southern Spain

Seen on Tuesday east of Malaga. I'd like it to be an Isabelline Wheatear but I suspect it's a Northern. Views please.

    Wader ID Shetland UK

Thanks guys. Interesting that even the Lars Gejl book doesn't show this plumage.

    Wader ID Shetland UK

My friend has passed me this photo from September 2014. I presume it is a stint, but it seems to have more dark colouring than any illustrations I have seen. Any clues please?

    Indian bird ID

Thanks Larry - it looked like a bit like a pied flycatcher from behind and a pale great tit from the front which ties in with white-naped.

    Indian bird ID

I am just back from a short family trip to India. While out enjoying some casual birding near Udaipur (Delwara to be precise) I saw a pair of distinctly black and white tits. On checking the field guide, they can only have been white-naped tits, which are described in the guide as "globally...

    Surprise visitor to photo

A friend took these photos in Ness, Island of Lewis, Outer Hebrides, in July. The inadvertent subject beside the pigeon has confused me. My first reaction was juvenile starling but the beak looks too heavy - almost like a mini green woodpecker. Thoughts please.

Buzzards ....a sign of the times

Enjoyable though buzzards are to watch, it's interesting that this thread has not raised the question as to whether the exponential growth could have a downside - for example are they perhaps pushing out kestrels? My experience here in south Glasgow would suggest so.

    Tay Reed Beds

We visited The Tay Reed Beds on Sunday, hoping to break a bearded tit duck. Conditions were perfect, other than facing into the sun. We had great views of marsh harriers, reed buntings and chiffchaffs were everywhere, but not a sound nor sight of the bearded tits. I understand this is a...

    Digiscoping Scotland

Thanks again Dafi. I wonder if any other digiscopers have seen this? Probably a good use of £20..... Funnily enough the reed bunting on the ad doesn't seem in brilliant focus. Maybe my aspirations are too high but I've seen some great photos on birdforum.

    Digiscoping Scotland

Bjorn, I'll try refocusing when the camera is attached. I have been using a tripod. It seems there is possibly a digiscoping workhop later in the year in Scotland, so the forum has done its job!

    Digiscoping Scotland

It seems that old dogs can learn new tricks. This post should have a photo of a sedge warbler attached. The bird was in brilliant focus through the scope so the photo was a real disappointment. Delia - I'll keep my eyes open for Scottish activities!

    Digiscoping Scotland

Thanks Bob and dafi. I'll do a little more research via the suggested link and also post a more detailed note on the equipment when I'm home and have it in front of me. I'll also try to attach examples but the technology defeated me by telling me my pictures were too big and I had to reduce...

    Digiscoping Scotland

Despite being a veteran birdwatcher I am new to digiscoping. I have bought some reasonable equipment (Opticron scope, Samsung camera, etc) but am finding it difficult to get the quality and focus of image I had hoped for. I have a feeling that a lesson from an expert would help greatly. Is...
