    Page 10 “scale of usefulness of features” explains the differences in diagnostic, characteristic, indicative etc. Personally I think it’s hard to quantify, and isn’t that why bird ID is difficult, if everything was straightforward we wouldn’t need all these books, Cheers James

    This is also what I have been looking for and it seems really good. Just a word of warning, it’s not completely without problems. I don’t know how yet but a lot of my records from the Netherlands have picked up a Spanish location, so I’m getting queried by ebird (quite rightly) about rare birds...

    Any bird guide for Ghana?

    The one you link to is the best, and has the same author and illustrator as the Birds of West Africa. The Ghana book is obviously lighter, but if you think you might be visiting other west African countries in the near future maybe you can put up with the extra weight, Cheers James

    Are you sure there's a soft copy? None of us at the team have heard anything about that? My contract did state that I would get a soft copy but Princeton told me at the Bird Fair that they weren't doing one? Had dinner with the rest of the team on saturday and they hadn't heard of one either...

    Yes they are, every time Nils updates something in the Dutch versions we made the same changes in the English. Obviously there comes a point where the publishers won’t accept any more changes, but the English version has been constantly updated. At the same time it is being translated into...
