SFL 50mm Second Look - does first impressions really last?

Hunters also see and know what CA is, and it may be a surprise to many is that hunters spend more on high end optics that most birders do. Large objective binoculars such as 50 and 56 are mainly a hunting size, "think low light". CA is found in most all binoculars when pushing for it on high...

Are there dealers who offer measuring of eye pupil size?

The eye pupil adjusts its diameter to the level of light. It opens when it is dark to let more light in, and closes under bright light. Think about how an SLR camera lens does it. It is a diaphragm. Color has nothing to do with it. Jerry

You are correct, bigger is better in that respect. Jerry

Are there dealers who offer measuring of eye pupil size?

Eye pupil diameter increases in darker light. Hard to measure unless under normal conditions. What is normal ? Daylight I suppose. Dealers don't do this type of thing, for many that spend too much time on here your dealer probably knows less about vision and optics and the binoculars they...

    Question? ID help

I believe you have the Nikon 8x20 LXL. It was and remains the top pocket binocular model that Nikon has ever made. Later examples may have been called Premier, and there may have been some coatings changes along the way. They compare well with the best pockets out there. Enjoy the binocular...

News from Zeiss - SFL 50

I don't think anyone knows if the lenses are thinner or whatever ? The speculation here is just that. The ways to lighten binoculars are in the metal chassis and armor. That is how Nikon lightened the Monarch HG. Jerry

    What is the Noctivid about?

Well Hoppy, in your post # 215, out of the blue in a Leica thread you like to dismiss the Zeiss SF, and I find that unusual and wonder about your intent. And your lack of experience is clear...............I suppose anyone can throw out negative comments about anything. (n) Jerry

    What is the Noctivid about?

I can tell you have no experience with the Zeiss SF, it really does knock the socks off anything Leica...... Jerry

Leitz Trinovid 10x40 : No markings?

I posted this a while ago. The trim rings are very important, they should be on every Leitz. Older and newer Leitz, Leica models. Jerry

    Nikon HGs

Your post is rubbish, as it is about leaded crystal glass in bowls, etc. Nothing about optical glass in optics. Not sure why you posted........... Jerry
