The new Sony a6400 - potentially a very good birding camera

Well said. All the cameras available for the last five years (dare I say 9 years) produce great images. Best not to get caught up in all the hype that accompanies a new release.

    New camera, 150-400 and 2x TC ?

Focal length equivalency These comparisons on equivalent reach were fine when all cameras had sensors with resolutions of 12 to 16 MP. But when the gap between sensor resolution widens you need to consider the resolution of the sensors. One way to look at it is that a Full Frame sensor has a...

    ID Help. Warbler - Louisiana

I'd appreciate some help in identifying this warbler seen at Lake Martin in Louisiana about two weeks ago. All the pictures are of the same bird. I'm thinking Orange-crowned but not sure. Image quality is not that great as it was raining at the time. Thanks in advance Paul

    White-rumped Sandpiper? Lake Erie, ON

Jane thanks for the extra effort. I'll leave it as unresolved for now although still leaning towards WR. Thanks to everyone who responded. Time to let this thread expire. Paul

    White-rumped Sandpiper? Lake Erie, ON

I'll check. I have quite a few of Least and there may be one of this bird in the background. But it will be tomorrow as I am heading out now. Paul

    White-rumped Sandpiper? Lake Erie, ON

The white I saw went completely across the rump consistent with a White-rumped. I've re-attached 100% crops, exaggerated the sharpening and increased the HDR in the shadows. Another birder just reported seeing a possible Dunlin * White-rumped Sandpiper hybrid in the same location about three...

    White-rumped Sandpiper? Lake Erie, ON

I saw two possibly three of these hanging out with some Least Sandpipers, a Dunlin and a Semipalmated Plover at Rock Point Provincial Park on the north shore of Lake Erie. I think it may be a White-rumped Sandpiper but am not sure. The photos are of the same bird. When they flew they did display...

ID Help Host flower for Giant Hummingbird

When we were in Peru last month we saw several giant hummingbirds in a few areas. They were all feeding off of this species of flower. I haven't been able to identify it. Anyone know the species> Thanks in advance Paul

ID help needed Machu Picchu Pueblo Peru

Neils, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I think it is a Common Tody-flycatcher. The colour in the book shows a gray back and cap but an internet image search shows quite a few images with the same characteristics as my images. Thanks for the help Paul

ID help needed Machu Picchu Pueblo Peru

I'm having trouble identifying this small bird. Images taken in the gardens at the Inka Terra Hotel in Machu Picchu Pueblo. Should be a slam dunk. Small bird, yellow belly, blue cap, yellow eye but I haven't been able to find a match in my Birds of Peru book. Any assistance appreciated. Thanks...

    Song Sparrow? Tucson Arizona

I feel kind of silly asking if this is a Song Sparrow but it is quite a bit different than the Eastern version we get in my home base in Ontario. Taken two weeks ago at Sweetwater Wetlands in Tucson. Thanks in advance Paul
