Sony SAL-500F80 Telephoto 500mm f/8.0 Reflex Autofocus Lens for Sony Alpha & Minolta

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I ended up buying the Sigma 170-500 and I am getting on real well with it. Denis, you were right on about the 2X. They talked my sister into buying it and it is awful. I'm glad I didn't go that route.

Sony SAL-500F80 Telephoto 500mm f/8.0 Reflex Autofocus Lens for Sony Alpha & Minolta

Hey KC! How ya doin? It's good to talk to you. I looked that one up along with the sigma Jose mentioned. They are both way more expensive than the Sony. But I will take another look at the Tamron since you give it such a good recommendation. Thanks my friend.

    Instant nectar mix ?

Chris, my hummers bathe in my regular birdbath almost every morning really early. I have some pictures of them but they aren't great because it really isn't light enough yet. I have a dripper on the bath that they use. I tried a mister but didn't have much luck with it.

    Instant nectar mix ?

I find just the opposite to be true here Chris. Last year I experimented by putting the instant mix in one of their favorite feeders and the homemade nectar in another one exactly like it and hung them side by side. The instant mix didn't get touched and the hummers drained the homemade nectar...

    Hello from Central Texas

Welcome neighbor. I live in Tilmon, about 15 miles from Lockhart. I have about 30 hummers right now too. All ruby throats as the black chins left about a month ago. HEB appreciates me as I'm buying a ten pound bag of sugar a week. Lol.

It was very likely a male ruby-throated hummingbird. Sometimes when the sun hits the gorget at a certain angle, it looks golden instead of red. Sometimes even orange or pink.

Monthly competition - time for a change?

I think as long as we have the thumbnail option for viewing, leave the competition as it is. My slow dial-up doesn't get along well with the slideshow but I get to see all the pictures using thumbnails. I like the idea of allowing everyone to participate. If you choose to split the competition...
