    Strangely Tame Ruffed Grouse

This grouse resides at a private hunting and fishing club consisting of about 10,000 acres of land. There are surely many nests on the property. No grouse are raised on site, unlike the quail and pheasants that are raised for hunting. THe grouse has been approaching families at one picnic...

    Strangely Tame Ruffed Grouse

At our place in the Poconos there is a male Ruffed Grouse who has been visiting with the humans quite strangely this year. I encountered him yesterday. He wouldn't budge from the middle of the road, even when shooed. He wouldn't move, except when I moved very close as if to catch hiim. Then...

    "Flock" of Bald Eagles

Saturday morning in the Pocono Mountains: first saw three eagles together, including a white-bellied immature. There was some very acrobatic fighting going on. About an hour later, a bit closer to the river, I looked up to see 5! Three fully white-headed and two immatures. They were sharing...

The General Public and the countryside

When I saw the topic I immediately thought of a particularly amazing thing that happened here this year. We had an especially wet spring. (Now it is dry as a bone). There was a bumper crop of spring peepers (Tiny little frogs). I had noticed them one night as I drove along the Brandywine...

coyote scare help this is so not fair :(

My sister has had coyotes and coydogs around her area for years. THey just don't eat cats. THey love wild turkeys, geese, ducks, carrion etc., but don't bother with house pets. SOunds like they have been around for ages - why worry now?

    Florida birding advice

It is going to be very, very hot and humid. A quick trip down the Keys and a boat ride to the Dry Tortugas would get you some fantastic birds (Boobys, Albatross etc. ) and you would be off shore with a bit more breeze and less bugs although it will be even hotter. If you like to snorkel, the...

    Help! Nest in my garage

Almost certainly wrens. They LOVE garages. They fledge quickly. Once they go, clean up the nest promptly and close things up so they don't have a second batch in there. THey are no more likely to poop on the Porsche than whatever is just outside.

    White-winged Cardinal

Sometimes they flatten their crests back, but I agree that this one doesn't look quite right.

How do i steal my neghbors gold finches....errr

WATER!!! Bubbling, fresh water. Fewer people water the birds than feed them. The goldfinches will mob your bath as soon as they find it.

    White-winged Cardinal

Very interesting thought...I haven't seen that many Bullfinches, but you are right. THe shape of the bird seems off for a cardinal and the wing patches seem very bullfinchy....hmmmmm.

    Bird call CDs....advice?

I do like these and have them running in my car most of the time. However, I would like to also have a set where I can jump from bird to bird easier. I have the "Identiflyer" hand-held thingy, and it is great for common birds, but there just aren't enough cards for it yet.

    Dark colored bird?

Are you sure about the tail being forked? Other than that, I would suspect Eastern Kingbird. http://www.birdforum.net/bird_view.php?bid=2851

What kind of bird is this??

I'm guessing a Flicker. Did the ring go all the way around the neck or was it more of a bib? Have a look at this one.... http://www.birdforum.net/pp_gallery/showphoto.php/photo/46676/sort/1/cat/all/page/1

    Ivory-billed Woodpecker Re discovered ?

I know two of the guys who saw it and have received an email from one of them about the adventure. I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that they are telling the truth.
