Identification

12 cm (4¾ in)

  • Bright yellow underparts
  • Long graduated tail

Male

  • Grey crown

Distribution

Africa:
Western Africa: Nigeria, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Angola
Eastern Africa: Sudan, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 3 subspecies[1]:

  • A. j. bambuluensis:
  • A. j. minor:
  • A. j. jacksoni:

Subspecies albimentalis is not recognised by all authorities[2]

Habitat

Moist montanes. Observed at heights around 1950m amsl.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet is almost entirely insectivorous, consisting of beetles, moths, caterpillars and flies.
