Identification
17–18 cm (6¾-7 in)
- Pale light brown supercilium behind the eye
- Black or dusky chin
- White horizontal hemispheres ring eye
- Reddish-brown face, crown and upperparts
Distribution
South America: Bolivian endemic found in the Andes of western Bolivia (La Paz, Cochabamba and western Santa Cruz).
Taxonomy
Moved to genus Asthenes from Schizoeaca.
Subspecies
Clements recognizes these subspecies[1]:
- A. h. harterti: Andes of La Paz, in northern Bolivia
- A. h. bejaranoi: Andes of Cochabamba, in central Bolivia
Habitat
Alpine grassland, elfin forests and dense undergrowth.
Behaviour
Diet
They feed mostly on arthropods.
Breeding
The oval nest is constructed from moss and twigs. It has a side entrance.
