Identification

Distribution

South America: found in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia.

Taxonomy

Formerly placed in Notiochelidon.

Subspecies[1]

There are 3 subspecies:

  • O. m. murina :
  • O. m. meridensis:
  • Andes of western Venezuela (Mérida and Trujillo)
  • O. m. cyanodorsalis:
  • Cordillera of western Bolivia and possibly adjacent Peru (Puno)

Habitat

Paramo, high altitude shrubland, grassland and pastures.

Behaviour

Diet

The diet includes insects.
