Western Africa: DRC and Angola
Eastern Africa: Tanzania, Zambia, and Mozambique
Southern Africa: Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, KwaZulu-Natal, Lesotho and eSwatini

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 6 subspecies^[1]:

• A. v. neumanni:

• Plateau of Angola; disperses to Namibia and Botswana

• A. v. chobiensis:

• North-eastern Namibia to southern Zaire, western Tanzania, northern Botswana and Mozambique

• A. v. marungensis:

• Northern Zambia to southern Tanzania

• A. v. namibicus:

• North-eastern and central Namibia

• A. v. exasperatus:

• Salt pans of north-eastern Botswana; wanders to western Zimbabwe

• A. v. vaalensis:

• Southern Botswana to southern Mozambique, South Africa and western Lesotho

Habitat

Dry lowland grassland.
