Identification
21–23 cm (8¼-9in)
Male
- Dark greyish-blue upperparts, head, throat, nape and tail
- Chestnut underparts
- Blackish lores and ear-coverts
Distribution
Asia: found in south-western China, south-eastern Tibet, Nepal, Pakistan, India, Eastern and Western Himalayas, Bangladesh and Bhutan
Southeast Asia: Indochina, Myanmar, northern Laos, northern Vietnam, Thailand.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
They breed in moist open mixed oak-coniferous forests.
Behaviour
Diet
Their diet consists mostly of insects, such as craneflies and cicadas.
