Scelorchilus rubecula

Identification

Brownish-grey upperparts, underparts white barred dark but with unbarred grey flanks, red supercilium, throat and upper breast.

Distribution

South Chile and adjacent Western Argentina.

Taxonomy

Two subspecies recognized:

  • S. r. rubecula:
  • S. r. mochae on Mocha Island, Chile.

Habitat

Beech forests where there is bamboo. or other dense scrubbery, most likely near streams.

Behaviour

Very wary and secretive.

Terrestrial.
