Endemic to southeast Asia: found in Indochina, Philippines, Indonesia, Greater Sundas and Sulawesi.

- C. h. septentrionalis:
- Northern Philippines (north-western Luzon)
- C. h. zimmeri:
- Philippines (Luzon and Catanduanes)
- C. h. panayensis:
- Panay, Negros, Cebu, Leyte, Mindanao, Biliran and Palawan
- C. h. mayri:
- Sulu Archipelago (Bongao and Tawitawi)
- C. h. helianthea:
- Sulawesi, Salayar, Banggai and Sula islands
Habitat
Understorey of montane forests.
Behaviour
Diet
The diet includes insects, hawked aerially.
