Identification
Lenth 17 cm.
Adult: Upperparts mostly black with a chestnut crown and white wing bar. Underparts white. Bill and legs black, eye dark.
Similar species
Luehder's Bushshrike has a buffy throat and breast and Braun's Bushshrike has a bright orange-red throat and breast.
Distribution
Endemic to west-central Angola where found on the Gabela escarpment.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.[2]
Regarded by some authorities as a subspecies of Luehder's Bushshrike.
Habitat
Forest undergrowth and mid-stratum and thicket.
Status
Classified as Endangered in the 2010 IUCN Red List due to on-going loss of habitat.[1]
Behaviour
Vocalisation
Calls include a frog-like waak-ik and a pop-up whistle; alarm calls are harsh clicks and rattles.
