Mostly dark blue plumage

South America: found in the Andes of western Colombia to north-western Ecuador (Esmeraldas).

This is a monotypic species^[1].

Restall writes that in the past, it has been placed in genus Buthraupis².

Cloud forest. Mostly observed around 250–1100 m.

Their diet consists mostly of fruit and nectar.
