Distribution
Endemic to western Mexico, from southern Sonora to Oaxaca.
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 3 subspecies[1]:
- V. h. nitidus:
- Lowlands of western Mexico (extreme southern Sonora)
- V. h. hypochryseus:
- Tropical western Mexico (Sinaloa and western Durango to western Oaxaca)
- V. h. sordidus:
- Tres Marías Islands (off western Mexico)
Habitat
Tropical pine-oak and thorn forest and forest edges. Riparian groves and more arid areas of brushland.
Behaviour
Diet
Little information is available. They are thought to feed in mixed species flocks.
