Identification
36–39 cm (14-15½ in)
- head, neck sides, breast and underparts light grey
- hind neck purple (both genders) and/or extending on to mantle (male)
- undertail coverts chestnut
- upper and undertail dark grey with a medial lighter grey band
- Bill and feet dark
- Eye dark chestnut
Male has more extensive purple hind neck / mantle.
Distribution
Sulawesi endemic. South East Asia: Indonesia: Greater Sundas.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Found within and at the edges of dense montane forests. Generally at heights between 200 and 2400 m.
Behaviour
Diet
They feed in flocks in the understorey, but there is no information about their actual diet.
Breeding
Their nests are placed on cliff ledges with eggs laid from December to March.
