Asia: found in Japan, summer visitor to Sakhalin Is. and Kuril Is., reported from Korea.
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 2 subspecies[1]:
- P. r. rubida:
- Southern Kuril Islands, Shikoku and Hokkaido
- P. r. fervida:
- Honshu (Japan); winters to Kyushu
P. r. fervida is not recognised by all authorities[2]
Habitat
Mixed deciduous and coniferous forests. Stays near the tree line in summer, moves to mid-elevations in winter.
