Asia: found in Russia, Mongolia, China, Korea and Japan.

Taxonomy

This is a polytypic species^[1] consisting of 2 subspecies.

Formerly placed in genus Megalurus.

Subspecies

• H. p. sinensis:

• Reedbeds of northeastern China (eastern Liaoning and northeastern Hebei); winters southeastern China

• H. p. pryeri:

• Honshu (Japan)
