Identification
31cm. Both sexes are similar. Olive brown plumage, blue grey below, white undertail coverts, brown iris, bare pink facial skin, bluish-yellow bill and dark olive legs. Light grey stripes on reddish maroon feathers on the back. The young has brownish plumage, a black bill, legs and hazel iris.

Moluccas and Misool Island, Indonesia
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
It was formerly placed in the genus Megapodius.
Habitat
Hill and mountain forests
Behaviour
It lays its eggs nocturnally. The nesting grounds are usually located in sun-exposed beach or volcanic soils.
