Identification

- Buffy forehead merging with rufous crown, hindneck, upper mantle and sides of breast
- Sooty grey to purple rest of wings and tail
- Whitish buff throat to auriculars
- Buff rest of underparts
- Blackish brown bill
- Red legs and feet
Sexes similar. Females with tinged rusty brown underparts and smaller bill.
Distribution
Found in the southern parts of the Bismarck Archipelago on Umboi, New Britain and Lolobau. Considered rare. | |

Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
It forms a superspecies with New Guinea Bronzewing.
Habitat
Moist lowland forest. Also in hills and lower mountains.
Behaviour
Biology virtually unknown.
No information on diet. Forages principally on the ground, presumably similar diet and feeding like New Guinea Bronzewing.
The nest is said to be placed low in a small tree or in a shrub. Lays 2 egg.
No information on movements.
