Four subspecies recognized:
- A. p. percernis on Nukuhiva Island (Marquesas Islands)
- A. p. idae on Uahuka Island (Marquesas Islands)
- A. p. aquilonis on Eiao Island (Marquesas Islands)
- A. p. postremus on Hatutu Island (Marquesas Islands)
Formerly considered conspecific with Southern Marquesan Reed Warbler under the name Marquesan Reed Warbler.
