South America: found in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia.

Taxonomy

Subspecies

Clements recognises two subspecies^[1]:

• M. c. caribbaeus:

• Mountains of northern Venezuela (Trujillo and Lara to Sucre)

• M. c. cephalotes:

• Andes of Colombia and western Venezuela to western Bolivia

Habitat

Moist montanes.
