Anthus bogotensis

Identification

Distribution

South America: found in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Argentina.

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 4 subspecies[1]:

  • A. b. meridae:
  • Andes of north-western Venezuela (Mérida, Táchira and Trujillo)
  • A. b. bogotensis:
  • Andes in western Venezuela (Paramo de Tamá, southern Táchira), Central and Eastern Andes of Colombia, east slope of the Andes in Ecuador, and Andes of northern Peru (south to Ancash, presumably this subspecies)
  • A. b. immaculatus:
  • East slope of Andes from northern Peru (central Amazonas) south to Bolivia (La Paz and Cochabamba)
  • A. b. shiptoni:
  • Andes of northwestern Argentina (Tucumán); records from Bolivia (north to La Paz) may be of austral migrants, although possibly resident in south (Tarija)

Habitat

Treeline shrubland, observed at 3500m asl.
