- Black crown and nape, streaked with brown
- Chestnut eyebrow and cheeks
- Brown upperparts barred black
- Black marks on tertials
- Cinnamon breast
- White vent
- Brown iris
- Grey bill
- Crimson bare eye-ring skin
Pinkish feet
Female has browner, smaller white spots.

Endemic to Borneo

- Montane forests of north-central Borneo

- Mount Kinabalu (northern Borneo)
