- Euplectes laticauda
Identification
Breeding adult male: Black with long tail (thinner tail than other long-tailed widowbirds); lacks coloured shoulder patches. A red collar across the lower throat extends to the nape and crown. Upperside shows yellow feather edges.
Female and non-breeding male: Brown with a boldly striped black and buff head and unstreaked, buffy underparts (or possibly a faint streaking of buff and paler colors on upper breast).

This species was formerly included within Red-collared Widowbird.
Subspecies
This is a monotypic species[1]. Clements recognizes these subspecies[1]:
- E. l. laticauda
- Highlands of eastern South Sudan, Eritrea and Ethiopia
- E. l. suahelica
