Identification
12cm. A small, slim-billed and warbler-like Vanga:
- Ashy-grey top and side of head, contrasting with greyish-brown mantle, scapulars and rump
- Light tawny-rufous uppertail-coverts
- Greyish-brown upperwing (slightly darker on primaries)
- Conspicuous pale panel on secondaries
- Rufous-brown tail with duller brown inner boarders and tips
- White chin, throat and underparts, breast side and flanks with cinnamon-buff wash
- Reddish-brown to dark-brown eye
- Blackish bill
Sexes similar, juveniles undescribed.
Distribution
Endemic to eastern Madagascar from Marojejy south to Andohahela.
Until 1989 only know from two specimens, then rediscovered. Only patchily distributed and most of its habitat is under severe threat.
Taxonomy
Monotypic.
Habitat
Tall, humid evergreen forest. Occurs from 300 to 800m, rarely higher.
Behaviour
Feeds on insects.
Usually seen in mixed-species flocks.
No information about breeding.
