Identification

Distribution

Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, and Nepal.

Taxonomy

Subspecies

Three subspecies recognized[1]:

  • P. r. rubidiventris from northwest India to central Nepal
  • P. r. beavani from central Nepal to northeast Burma, northwest India, south Tibet and southwest China
  • P. r. saramatii in northwest Burma (Mount Sarameti in Naga Hills)

An additional subspecies whistleri is not usually considered valid[2].

Habitat

Boreal and temperate forests.
