Distribution

Africa
Western Africa: found only in Democratic Republic of Congo
Eastern Africa: Tanzania, Zambia, Mozambique and Malawi

Taxonomy

This is one of the many Sunbirds that have recently been moved to the genus Cinnyris from the genus Nectarinia.

Subspecies

There are 2 subspecies[1]:

  • C. s. shelleyi:
  • C. s. hofmanni:
  • Eastern Tanzania (Ruvu and Pangani rivers to Morogoro region) - sometimes split as Hofmann's Sunbird
