Taxonomy

This species was formerly included within Bocage's Akalat.

Subspecies

Clements recognizes five subspecies[1].

  • S. b. granti:
  • S. b. poensis:
  • S. b. kaboboensis:
  • S. b. schoutedeni:
  • S. b. kungwensis:
  • Western Tanzania (Kungwe-Mahari Mountains)

The subspecies poensis from Bioko is sometimes considered a full species, Alexander's Akalat.
