Distribution

Turkey and Ukraine east to Mongolia and Afghanistan, and south to southern Iraq and Iran.

Taxonomy

This taxon was formerly included in Lesser Short-toed Lark (sensu lato).

Subspecies

Three subspecies are recognized^[1].

• A. h. heinei

• Breeds from Ukraine and eastern Turkey east to eastern Kazakhstan and (disjunctly?) to southern Mongolia; wintering in the Middle East and southwestern Asia

• A. h. aharonii

• Breeds central Turkey (Anatolian high plateau); partially migratory, wintering to central Syria

• A. h. persica

• • Southern Iraq and Iran to southeast Afghanistan
