Identification
12cm. A small Stachyris-babbler:
- Blackish crown and moustache stripe, streaked with white
- Grey ear-coverts and nape
- Rufous back and tail
- Grey flanks on white underparts
Sexes similar, juveniles like adults.
Distribution
Endemic to Java, Indonesia.
Patchily distributed but common in appropriate habitat.

Habitat
Moist lowland forests. Mainly below 1000m
Behaviour
Feeds on insects.
Usually seen in small singe-species groups of up to 30 birds, mostly around 6 birds. Sometimes in mixed flocks with other babbler like Crescent-chested Babbler and Grey-cheeked Tit-Babbler. Forages in undergrowth and middle stratum, sometimes hanging upside-down.
Breeding in all months with a peak in May to June. No other information about nest or clutch size.
