Identification
13 cm.
- Black forehead and crown
- Contrasting white face
- Slate-grey upperparts
- Black tail with white in outer rectrices
- Deep orange-yellow throat and underparts
- White undertail-coverts
Sexes alike, juveniles undescribed.
Similar species
Similar to Saffron-breasted Redstart but easily told apart by the white face.
Distribution
Tepuis of southern Venezuela (Cerros Guany, Yaví and Paraque).
A restricted-range species with a very small global range (suitable habitat estimated at 500–600 km2).
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Forms a superspecies with Saffron-breasted Redstart, Tepui Redstart and probably also Paria Redstart. Formerly regarded conspecific with Saffron-breasted Redstart.
Habitat
Montane humid forest and forest edge.
Recorded from 900 to 2250 m.
Behaviour
No information about diet or breeding.
Presumably a sedentary species.
