Identification
Length 22-24 cm
Black plumage (slightly glossy), with a brilliant golden crest. Yellow eye wattle.
Distribution
Africa: found in the Albertine Rift, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and possibly adjacent south-western Uganda.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Montane and mid-altitude forest.
Status
Classified as Vulnerable in the 2011 IUCN Red List, largely as a result of habitat degredation.[2]
Behaviour
Found in small flocks (3-8 birds).
Diet
Their diet consists mostly of insects such as grasshoppers.
Vocalisations
Musical double notes, liquid bubbling calls and chattering and churring sounds.
