Distribution
South America: found in northern Venezuela; interior north-eastern Brazil (Ceará to Bahia)
Threatened especially by illegal capture for the pet trade.
Taxonomy
Formerly placed in genus Carduelis.
Habitat
Dry woodland and shrubland, second growth, edges, arable land, plantations, and urban areas. Found in lowland up to 500 m asl.
Behaviour
Diet
There is little information available; they are thought to eat a variety of seeds and fruit.
Breeding
They are known to nest in pine trees in Brazil, but there is not much information published.
