Distribution
Asia: found in China, Tibet, Nepal
South Asia: India, Eastern and Western Himalayas, Bangladesh, Bhutan
Southeast Asia: Indochina, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam and Thailand
Taxonomy
Subspecies
Two subspecies accepted:
- P. c. cantator breeds in the mountains of Bhutan, northeast India, adjacent Tibet and Burma, winters to northwest Thailand
- P. c. pernotus breeds in northern Laos
Habitat
Breeds in bamboo and dense broadleaf evergreen forests, between 300m and 2000m.
Behaviour
Diet
Their diet consists almost entirely of insects and larvae. They generally forage alone or in pairs during the breeding season.
Breeding
Both adults construct the ball-shaped nest from grass. They place it amongst fallen leaves on the ground between tree roots.
