Identification
Mostly ochraceous with white spots edged in black on the upperside and no barring below; legs red.
Distribution
Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela. The inclusion of Costa Rica in this list of countries is based on one single species from an area that once was a Savannah near Buenos Aires in Costa Rica
Taxonomy
There are two subspecies: schomburgkii is found locally in the Guyanas, while chapmani occurs from eastern Brazil to Bolivia
Habitat
Dry savanna and wet lowland grassland.
