Identification

Distribution

Three well separated populations: Central America: Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and northern Nicaragua; and from Costa Rica to western Panama South America: west of the Andes in Colombia and Ecuador

Taxonomy

Two subspecies are recognized:

  • A. v variegaticeps
    • S Mexico (Guerrero and Veracruz) to w Panama
  • A. v temporalis
    • W slope of Western Andes of Colombia and Ecuador

Habitat

Moist lowland forests and montanes.
