My first one was bought brand new but got stolen in Costa Rica. I bought a second hand one after I returned. Great scope while everything was working ok. In 2015 the objective lens started fogging up so I sent it to Leica in Germany. Their estimate to replace the lens was 511 euros which I paid. Fourteen months late while seawatching in Oz I noticed speckling on the lens. This increased after cleaning and it was obvious the coating was coming off. Returning back to the UK I sent it off to Leica who stated the coating is fine and that the lens was scratched and it would be 280 euros to replace. Bearing in mind this is the same job that they had charged me 511 euros for. I replied that I couldn't afford to run a scope that needed a new objective lens every 18 months. Talking to fellow birders four have had similar experiences. I would never touch a Leica product again the customers service is dire and the price for repairs seems to be a random guess.
