    Juvenile Red-Chested Owlet? -- Lomako Yokolala Reserve, D. R. Congo, Sep 18, 2024

This looked like a juvenile red-chested owlet to us. This is a new bird for us. So, I'd like confirmation before adding this adorable and cooperative little guy to our life list. Thanks for any help, Scott

    Possible Cassin's Hawk-Eagle - D. R. Congo from boat between Basankusu and Lingunda, Sep 13, 2024

These photos were taken from a moving boat between Basankusu and Lingunda on our way to the Lomako Tokolala Reserve in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Link is to map for location. I think we were closer to Lingunda. Merlin suggested Cassin's Hawk-Eagle as an ID. We did not have a birding guide...

Unidentified possible Warbler - Sichuan, China, somewhere near the Qingyi River late March 2024

Sorry I don't know the exact location. It was somewhere near the Qingyi River, possibly not too far from the start, which I think puts it somewhere in the vicinity of Feixianguan. But, I really can't be sure exactly. With our guide doing all of the driving and us being completely illiterate in...

Raptor - Kanha National Park, India, Nov 29, 2022

This was a large raptor, probably similar in size to the crested serpent eagle or possibly changeable hawk-eagle. But, I don't think the bird is either of those unless this bird is immature. Thanks for any help.

Shore bird - Kanha Jungle Lodge (near Kanha National Park) India, Nov 29, 2022

The bird was in a river between the park and the lodge. I think it was medium sized. The body was larger than a killdeer and smaller than a willet. Thanks for any help.

Oriole? Minivet? - Kanha Jungle Lodge (near Kanha National Park) India, Nov 29, 2022

Possible Black-naped Monarch female - Kanha Jungle Lodge near Kanha National Park, India 2022-11-27

A guide at the lodge identified this as a possible brown-cheeked fulvetta. But, that does not look correct to me. Could this be a black-naped monarch female? The bird was roughly similar in size to a monarch. Apologies for the quality of the images. Thank you for any help, Scott

05/06/2021 - Central Park, New York City - Immature Baltimore Oriole?

I saw this oriole in Central Park today. To me, the markings match a male Baltimore oriole. But, the color is yellow rather than orange. Do you think this is an immature Baltimore [edit: molting to adult possibly]? Leucistic? Some other species? Thanks for any help you can provide. Scott

Sparrow - Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, NJ, 8/19/2020

Any help with the ID of this sparrow would be appreciated. Some features seem to fit Savannah Sparrow. Others seem to fit Henslow's. Henslow's is listed on the official Great Swamp list as "extirpated". But, Sibley's lists them as still being in the state of New Jersey. Perhaps it's neither of...

Small possible juvenile bird -- Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, Queens, NY, 7/2/2020

I saw this small bird that may look greener than it actually is due to the light from the trees. I'm thinking the bird may be a juvenile. But, I can't really be sure. I'm not positive of the size, but probably about the size of a warbler of vireo. Sorry none of the photos are really good on...

    Thrush NYC - 5/20/2018 18:50

Hi All, I'm feeling pretty embarrassed not being able to positively identify this bird that was just outside my 7th floor window. The bird was up in the canopy, near the top, of a London plains tree in the mostly monoculture of those trees right outside our window. This bird seemed small to...
