    Norway guides?

And why would I want it in German? I might just as well have a go at my eyes with a sharp stick. Spanish, French, Russian, Italian, and Norwegian/Swedish all suffice, thank you. 3:-)

    Norway guides?

I just received a used copy of Aulén’s Where To Watch Birds In Scandinavia. Though 20 years old it still appears quite useful. A pity I didn’t have it before I made a lot of our travel arrangements. But it is worth it if for nothing other than alerting me to the Bjoreidalen which I might...

    Norway guides?

One should never assume anything but the worst in Russia. I am sure I have a respectable file at the building on Dzerzhinsky Square. Sorry, Lubyanka Square now. I can tell you everything you ever wanted to know about Soviet synthetic rubber production of fighter jet tyres. ;-) It would...

    Norway guides?

Yes, binoculars and cameras = western agent until proven otherwise. Doesn’t sound too fun. IIRC, if you were in the vicinity of any bridge, rail line, or airport you were breaking the law. BITD, they were too paranoid to even give their own troops maps! When I was a midshipman a senior...

    Norway guides?

The Irish don’t have the vote here (it’s Reilly). ;) Last time I was в Ленинграде the КГБ were quite inhospitable. Bloody buggers. Did I just date myself? 3:-)

    Norway guides?

It seems the only good one, A Birdwatchers Guide to Norway, is out of print and impossible to find. What’s a guy to do?

    Southern Giant Petrel

It was almost two years ago exactly that we saw this beauty on a boat trip out of Ushuaia, Argentina in the famous Beagle Channel. I believe we were extra lucky in that I am led to believe it is quite rare to see them inshore especially during good weather. This is a third year immature I believe.

    Questions for Ontario birders

I'll be visiting the rels in Barrie in late July. My initial research indicates the Minesing Wetlands could produce a Cerulean Warbler. Am I deluding myself? I'm also thinking I could find the odd Woodcock there if I was really lucky. Any other ideas for a half-day outing near Barrie?

    Your Most Recent "Life" Bird

White Wagtail at Cabrillo Beach (near Long Beach), California. I don't know how many have been seen in California but almost certainly less than 5 or 6.

What is the most rare bird you've seen.

Well, I can't claim any that are now extinct. Does that mean you are that old?;) I was in on the first Lower 48 sighting of two McKay's Buntings in Washington state in 1975. They are still rarely seen. I just hope they don't decide they are only a sub-species of the Snow and take my glory...

UK breeding bird population shrinks by more than 44 million since 1966

Speaking from this side of the Pond, where industrial farming is high art, I can well believe it is the major culprit. Loss of wintering habitat is at least a close second. There have been a number of studies here on wind farms' effect on the large raptors but I've not seen any on songbirds...

    Namibia snake ID help request

It certainly looks a Mamba, you were wise to give it space! :t:

    Hello from Wyoming MN.

Garrick, lost or just slightly confused? Wyoming, MN?. ;) Whatevah, welcome! So, just where is the above?

    Hola from California!

Lisa, Bisbee, indeed! I was there in May in between stops at Fort Huachuca and a fruitless day looking for the proverbial Spotted Owl, a most fruitful morning at Guadalupe Cyn and its pair of Berylline Hummers, and a very disappointing day or so in Cave Creek. Oh, also saw a Flame-colored...
