    Warbler id

Took this photo this afternoon in Gunton, Lowestoft, UK. Was trying to photograph a quick moving female Pied Flycatcher (without success), when this caught my eye. Presumed initially it was Chiffchaff but the rather slate grey back, not clear from photo, was making me question this. No call...

    Dunlin subspecies

A small group of Dunlin on Cley Marshes in Norfolk this afternoon. One of which was fractionally larger than the others, much paler overall with a slightly buffish appearance. The mannerisms, bill etc all seemed to be Dunlin like, so I wondered if this was a different subspecies from the more...

    Wagtail Query

Took these pictures on the shingle bank behind Cley Marshes NWT in Norfolk UK . The bird was on its own, presuming juvenile, but doesn't quite match anything. I forgot to get an opinion at the time & only got round to it today, though I have notes.

    April in Norfolk & Suffolk

Oulton Marshes near Lowestoft yesterday. Unseasonably warm for early April over 20 Chiffchaffs calling, almost managed to photograph a Cetti's Warbler, without doubt one of the most tricky birds to get a picture of. More warblers in very early including singing Willow Warbler, Blackcap, Common...

    Odd Pipit

At Salthouse in UK yesterday. Pics don't do justice really. Seemed a strange mixture, very little streaking on breast, none on flanks what there was on breast was largely rather diffuse. Quite a noticeable supercilium and quite a strong slightly rasping 'chirupp' call. It didn't display any of...

Changes in species distribution - a personal note

For about 20 years until 2014, I seriously cut down my birding & stopped bird recording in the UK altogether. Coming back to it in 2014 has really opened my eyes (literally!) to the changes in distribution/numbers of bird species in my local are of Norfolk & Suffolk between the early 1990's and...

    Hello from the UK

Hi I'm Mal and I live in Norwich, Norfolk in the UK & am born & bred in the Uk's most easterly town of Lowestoft. So live in one of the best birding areas in the UK. I've been bird watching since the age of 8, though did much less from around 1995 until returning to it again with a vengeance in...

Help please with identifying this white seabird off Cley NWT

Help please with what this bird is. This bird seems to have stumped all I've shown the picture to so far. Photo taken off Cley NWT 13:40hrs 11th July 2016 Wingspan c120cm, approx Common Gull in size somewhat larger than the Sandwich Terns that were fishing offshore. Spent too long I think...
