    Swiftlet from Kinabalu, Malaysia

Hi all, took this bird at the entrance to Kinabalu Park in Malaysia. I spotted it flying alone, quite high up in the air and my first impression in the field was that it looked larger/longer-winged than typical Aerodramus swiftlets and thought I had a Giant Swiftlet - but I'm not too sure after...

    Raptor from Kinabalu, Malaysia

Hi all, saw this raptor at Kinabalu Park (around the restaurants area) and initially IDed it as a juvenile Rufous-bellied Eagle, but this species seems rather uncommon at Kinabalu + the top views of the bird's plumage doesn't seem to match that of a juvenile Rufous-bellied Eagle (unless this top...

Pipit from Cape Town, South Africa

Hi all, saw this pipit at Tienie Versfeld Nature Reserve, a grass field slightly north of Cape Town area. Wanted to confirm it is an African Pipit or if it is something else less common - thanks in advance!

Sparrow at Sani Pass, South Africa

Looked through my photos and found a picture of another female-type bird in a pair - seems like they are Drakensberg Siskins!

Sparrow at Sani Pass, South Africa

Hi all, saw this sparrow at Sani Pass (nearing border of Lesotho), initially dismissed it as a Cape Sparrow but seems to lack wingbars and streaking on throat seems off. Appreciate any advice on the ID! Thanks in advance

White-throated Canary, Northern Cape, South Africa

Hi all, saw this canary at Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in Oct 2023 - it looks ok for a White-throated Canary (huge bill) but curiously has a very yellow wash to its upperparts, tertial edges and even rectrices, is this usual for a White-throated Canary? Photos I have seen online of this species...

Warbler from Northern Cape, South Africa 2023

Thanks for confirming! Agreed that the primary projection does look short in the pictures.

Warbler from Northern Cape, South Africa 2023

Hi all, saw this warbler in the mid-upper canopy of a tree at Augrabies Falls National Park in Oct 2023. Quite puzzled by what it could be, it was markedly larger than typical Phylloscopus-type birds with a long bill. Appreciate any help on the ID! Thanks

    Dark-sided Flycatcher, Sri Lanka?

Hi all, saw this flycatcher in March 2022 at Sinharaja Forest Reserve, Sri Lanka. It was perched at the top of a dead branch in the open (at least 4-5m high). My group and I identified this as a Dark-sided Flycatcher in the field - short, stubby-looking bill, darkish malar stripe, longish (?)...

Crested or Thekla's Lark, Extremadura, Spain

Hi all, took photos of a bunch of larks around Cáceres in Extremadura recently in April - most of the ones I took look like Crested Larks, but I have two particular individuals that look more Thekla's to me (photos 1/2 of individual #1, photos 3/4 of individual #2), happy to receive any advice...

Two Birds in Thailand need identifying.

To add on, this is a juvenile Black-naped Oriole of the subspecies diffusus, which has been proposed to be split into a new species. Agreed that the second bird looks good for a Shikra, looks like a male.

Cyornis flycatcher from Kaeng Krachan, Thailand

Thanks for the inputs! Good points, seems like Chinese Blue Flycatcher is the most probable option here (looking at eBird Indochinese Blue and Chinese Blue seem to be more common in the area too).

Hi all, took these photos of a female Cyornis from near Kaeng Krachan at around 250m elevation, don't have any recordings of this bird unfortunately. Brambling from Singapore (age, moult)

Sorry for the late reply! Yes, they were taken in a non-captive environment based on submitted details - in some shrubs along a jogging trail, adjacent to some urban parks/greenery.

    Brambling from Singapore (age, moult)

Thanks all for the inputs! We are trying to figure out if these birds could be genuine vagrants or escapees given that they seem to be able to reach the Kra Isthmus, with several vagrant records from that area.

    Brambling from Singapore (age, moult)

Hi all, would like to get some help in ageing these two Bramblings that turned up in Singapore in November this year. Are these both adult birds (female and non-breeding male)? Will also be keen to know if anyone can provide any insights on their moult/age and whether their plumage is normal...
