    Happy Birthday Bea!

THANK YOU Pam, Baz, Paul, Val, Keith and KC for your good wishes. I had a very nice birthday, out to lunch with my family and then relaxing for the rest of the day. Another year older!

    Back again, with shocking news.

Sorry to read that you've been so ill Baz and pleased you are now on the mend. I haven't been keeping up with BF for months but thought I would look in and your post stood out. I feel the same way about Northerners getting a bad name for inflicting such mindless cruelty. I hope those resposible...

Weather January 2010! Happy New Year.

Light snow at present and -1c. Its been a very dangerous day for everyone around here, black ice which apparently formed in the early hours has caused countless accidents, both for motorists and those on foot. The local hospitals have been very busy because of broken bones caused by people...

Weather January 2010! Happy New Year.

We're having a slow thaw, no overnight ice on the bird bath and the snow is gradually receeding. I hope I don't speak too soon! Gill, I think what Cheers said makes sense. Best to find out officially where you stand. I know what its like living next door to an old witch but she's learnt not to...

Look at the photo on page 12

I read this supplement every Saturday Keith, there's always interesting articles in it and I find Bill Teal's column excellent for local bird news. Robert Fuller is a brilliant wildlife photographer and artist, he has his own gallery which I'd like to visit one day.

    Things are looking up

I could clearly see some Blackbirds still feeding at 5.35 tonight. I do hate dark, depressing evenings and it does my soul good to know that the days are gradually lengthening. At last there's light at the end of the long tunnel of winter. Sounds a little poetic but you know what I mean ;).

Tales of a Frosty Birder with a Shrunken List!

Enjoyable reading Brian, you're a tough one to venture out in this weather although I well remember the time when this was common but it didn't bother me back then. Very good seasonal photos too, the cloud in the second one looks ominous - more snow to come? I hope the swan was OK. I do worry...

    Today's Visitors

A very welcome visitor today and a first for my garden, a Song Thrush. It was eating the fruit along with the other members of the thrush family but every time I went to the window to take a pic it flew off.

    Winter Thrush update

The lone Fieldfare is still coming for the pears, apples and sultanas. All I need now is a Redwing to have all five thrushes honouring me with their visits. I had a lovely surprise today to see a Song Thrush eating the fruit, it stayed around all day. This is another first in the garden for me...

Weather January 2010! Happy New Year.

Yes, its a nightmare Pam. Unfortunately I had to go out this morning and after skidding my way out of the cul de sac I was driving directly into the sun. Still, shouldn't complain I suppose, at least it was sunny!

Woodcock on Patio and a Foxy Lady

Thats a real turn up for your garden Pat, I'm glad it came round from it's collision with the window.

    Winter Thrush update

One lone Fieldfare feeding on apples in the garden as I type. A Mistle Thrush is trying to chase it off and the Fieldfare is chasing the Blackbirds, of which there are nine at present. Never seen so many in the garden at the same time and the other two are first to actually feed.

Weather January 2010! Happy New Year.

It was clear here at 6am, by 9am a good 6" had fallen. I live on top of one the hills that surround Leeds so we always get more than the lower ground, not good for us seniors but the kids are making the most of their day off school. I hear the south and southwest wil be in for it tonight...

    Winter Thrush update

I've only seen two Fieldfares so far but my son has just phoned to say he's seen a large flock of Redwings feeding on berries near Leeds. I've usualy seen flocks of both these thrushes flying overhead by now but, as they're always on the move, I live in hope that they'll turn up soon. Has...

    Hello again

Thank you all for your kind words of welcome (and hugs ladies!), its good to be back. The only birding I'm doing at present is through the windows. While I don't mind driving in the arctic conditions we are having in these parts I'm really scared of slipping on the ice. Apart from the...

    Hello again

Hi everyone and I wish a very happy, healthy and peaceful New Year to you all. I hope you are all keeping warm and safe in this mini ice age. I've been away from the Board for a few months, mainly due to lack of motivation for a while, a few health problems and my computer completely packing...

Good shots of the Osprey Baz, I hope it gets to its winter quarters safely despite all those idiots with guns around the Mediterranean.
